I have an exam scheduled for 3p.m. in Red Hook. Hoping I could find someone who has a car and an M license to escort me to the road test....
I know this will be difficult as I'm sure all of you are working but thought I'd give it a try anyhow. Thanks a bunch...

i used brooklyn driving school, (718) 633-6000, very reliable. i highly recommend them. you can just rent the trail car and use your own bike. they show up w/ a car and helmets w/ radios.

good luck!

Thanks. I guess I will give them a ring. How was the exam? I've been riding motorcycles out west for years. Always good to know what to expect so I'm 100% assured to pass. Thanks!!

Here's one description of the Red Hook test from 2005 that's in the FAQ:
What is the NYC DMV Motorcycle Licensing Road Test like?
http://www.nyscooterclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=620

Maybe when you're done you could update that FAQ if your experience in 2007 was any different?

Thanks and good luck.

The thread brouhaha gave you a link to is very helpful and accurate and was a huge help for me.

the one thing i would point out is that at red hook you are required to do your continuous circles and figure 8's on an active roadway. there will likely be traffic that you will have to yield to. if you fail to yield to oncoming traffic it is an automatic fail. to yield you simply stop in the middle of your circle or figure 8 on the curb for whichever side is closest and wait until traffic passes. you are allowed to put your foot down when you are yielding.

hope this helps, good luck!

would have been a breeze had you already had your CA motorcycle license, or if inadvertently the M class didn't get switched over (like mine from CT) a quick (or long) call to the last DMV where you had the motorcycle endorsement last can get you the proper paperwork (i.e. license history) to put that M on your NY D.L..

You did have a license when you were out west, right?

Yeah I actually moved to NY right a week after I got my motorcycle license but did not take care of paperwork before I left. I know I should have taken care of that in NY before the temporary license they gave me expired. I think it was 2-3 months time frame. Did not bother as was not planning on riding a bike in the city.
